Four years after the pandemic shut down large parts of the economy, businesses continue to develop new capabilities to survive and thrive.
The pandemic has disrupted some industries and forced others into restraint.
Those that survive have developed strategies, often by design or by chance, to operate in an economy that is stronger now than it was before March 2020.

Today’s fifth annual edition of the Jacksonville Daily Record Top Entrepreneurs features nine finalists and one legend operating in the post-pandemic business world.
We received a record nearly 80 nominations in three categories: Northeast Florida entrepreneurs with revenues of less than $2 million, $2 million to $15 million, and more than $15 million.
The variety of options made it difficult to narrow down the field. Those not included in the class of 2024 are encouraged to volunteer in 2025.

The nine finalists share many practices and characteristics, with a focus on adaptability.
As you read about these nine finalists and legends, you will find that their lessons are valuable not only to all business owners, but also to business owners, self-employed and home-based workers, students, teachers, and almost everyone else. It turns out that there is.
Those lessons include:
concentration. Find your niche, eliminate what doesn’t fit, and don’t go into areas that cost more than they’re worth.
Dive best. Similarly, if a line of business is losing money or has value to a buyer, it may no longer be needed.
vision. If you can’t define your goals, you can’t achieve them.
Grow sustainably. Choose how you manage your growth (money and people) and be careful not to expand too quickly or be too timid. Don’t overreach. But it’s also not out of reach.
pivot. If an idea doesn’t work, don’t force it. move on.
Plan for losses. Be prepared to take it on from the beginning. But that’s only if your business plan is strong enough to pivot.
Diversify. Don’t rely on one major source of revenue or one big customer. Because they can disappear. Remember March 2020?
Follow your passion. You need to love what you do in order to do what it takes to perform at your best and be dedicated in your field.
Sacrifice. Perhaps you already know that feeling. As an entrepreneur, your time and money are at a premium. If what you’re doing is worth the sacrifice, it’s more likely to pay off.
Please value your experience. Make use of your past job hunting activities. Do you remember a short stint at a company where you had no idea why you joined? It taught you skills and ideas that came in handy when you least expected it.
competition. So when your industry thrived during the pandemic, were you surprised that suddenly everyone else decided to join it? You were a veteran and sharpening your blade, but others People may have already left. In fact, they may want to sell or merge.
employee. They keep your business running. There’s no risk of failing them, especially considering how difficult it is to find good team members.
family. Don’t forget who has your back and whose back you have. When making decisions, we evaluate their needs through all the filters.
love. Continue to leverage the power you have and already have in your business.
Towards 2025
Next year, the Daily Record plans to further improve its nomination form.
Entrepreneurs are asked for nominations and are asked to submit their revenue and number of employees for the past three years.
We had to work around some strong candidates again this year because the nominees didn’t know about it and didn’t want to participate.
Expand your form to give candidates more space to share more about themselves.
Another request: one nomination per entrepreneur. No need for multiple forms.
Entrepreneurs must also have been CEO long enough to report three years of earnings.
We applaud and thank those who have already been selected as finalists over the past five years, but we want to give that opportunity to others as well.
