Black entrepreneurs honored at gala event

More than 200 people gathered for the 2nd Annual Black Entrepreneurship Gala held at the Washington Civic Center. The event celebrated and recognized Black and minority entrepreneurs and other community leaders in Eastern North Carolina.
“Being an entrepreneur is not easy,” said event organizer Kenisha Sally Boomer. “The gala is an opportunity to recognize people who work hard to build their businesses and whose accomplishments are often overlooked. I want to show my respect.”

Pastor James Moore of Enteral Legacy Ministries was also recognized for his continued support.
“We hope that the celebration continues to serve as an inspiration for others to continue to strive and follow their dreams,” Boomer said. “We are already planning for next year and hope it will be even bigger and more diverse. I envision it as an event where everyone can participate and be recognized.”
Boomer is planning a similar event this summer for aspiring entrepreneurs ages 5 to 17.
This year’s gala was sponsored by CaregenX Home Care and GAM Cares. GAM Cares is a local nonprofit organization that works with seniors to provide utilities, rental assistance, wheelchair ramps, grocery shopping, food, and meal preparation.
