Shawnee, Ohio: A Shawnee Village downtown revitalization project aimed at fostering the growth of small businesses and economic development was announced today. Black Diamond Development LLC, in partnership with JobsOhio and Southeast Ohio Economic Development (OhioSE), announces a historic investment of more than $1.3 million to completely renovate and develop two historic downtown buildings. did.
Black Diamond Development purchased two at-risk, adjacent historic buildings at 116 and 118 W. Main Street in downtown Shawnee in 2020 and has since expanded both buildings, known as the Dishon Building. The building was stabilized and prepared for renovation. The building’s owner, local historian Rob Dishon, tragically passed away in early 2020. Black Diamond Development decided to honor his contributions to building preservation by naming the building after him.
“The restoration of the historic Dishon Building is an example of the importance of preserving Ohio’s proud heritage,” said Governor Mike DeWine. “These buildings speak to Shawnee’s past and will be restored to support future economic development and tourism for the village and region.”
Through this investment, the building will be returned to productive life as a commercial coworking space that will house the Genesis Healthcare System offices and primary care clinic, Na’s Winery, the Black Diamond Regional Tourism Office, and daily-use flexible coworking space. will be done. , weekly, monthly. The upper floors of both buildings will house vacation rental units.

Without the public-private partnership made possible by JobsOhio and OhioSE, Quinn said, these buildings would be lost forever because traditional market economics would not work to enable redevelopment. Ta.
JobsOhio is supporting this project with a $400,000 Vibrant Community Grant.
