Chris Meledandri’s Illumination and video game giant Nintendo are teaming up on a new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros., scheduled for theatrical release in the U.S. and international markets on April 3, 2026.
Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic will direct from a script by Matthew Fogel.
The film is co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo and will be distributed theatrically worldwide by Universal.
Produced by Illumination founder and CEO Melendantori and Nintendo representative director and fellow Shigeru Miyamoto.
