American teenager Ilia Marin made history when she won the World Figure Skating Championships by landing six quads.
The 19-year-old athlete is known as the “God of the Quad” and was in third place after Thursday’s short program. However, she impressed the judges with her free skate performance on Saturday, earning 227.79 points, the highest score of the competition.
“It means a lot to me,” Marinin said, according to the International Skating Union. “The last few weeks have been very challenging both mentally and physically.”
He continued, “I was wondering if I should even come here. It was last minute, but I wanted to come here to see what I could do on the ice. I’m very happy to be here at the top now. ”
Marinin’s performance was combined with the Succession theme song. During the 4-minute free skate, athletes land a quad Axel, a quad Lutz, a quad loop, a quad Salchow, another quad Lutz, a quad toe loop, and finally a triple Lutz-triple Axel. Ta.

During the program, Marinin heard cheers from the crowd after every quad, and the experience was emotional for the champion.
“Hearing the audience go wild even though we haven’t finished the program yet is just an incredible experience,” Marinin said, according to the Associated Press. “It was such a surprise to me. I couldn’t even sustain myself, it was just emotional for me.”
