NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) — Mike Matejka is heading to the White House. He accepted an invitation to the “Communities in Action: Building a better Illinois and Indiana Summit.” On Thursday, Matejka will join other community leaders and local elected officials to share the impact the Biden-Harris administration’s investments have had on their communities.
“I’ve been to Washington, D.C., many times on Congressional visits and visits. But I’ve never received an invitation from the White House. So this will be an interesting first.”
Realizing that the invitation was not a scam, Matejka worked with McLean County officials to create a list of economic opportunity projects being pursued by the current administration. There’s growth in the electric vehicle industry, the Uptown Station Underpass project, a significant increase in union apprenticeships, and several infrastructure projects.
“In this sector, we recognize that the administration’s investments will benefit the local economy,” Matejka said. “And it’s an opportunity to not only say, ‘Thank you,’ but to say, ‘Look, this is Central Illinois.’ Explain how we’re benefiting from these investments in infrastructure. ” I hope it stays with us for decades to come and makes a big difference. ”
Matejka hopes that infrastructure revitalization will have a lasting impact, similar to President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s investments during the Great Depression.
“We still use bridges, parks and dams that were built in the 1930s,” Matejka said. “So we hope that revitalizing our infrastructure now will be a long-term investment that will be enjoyed by generations of Americans.”
State Rep. Jehan Gordon Booth is also expected to attend Thursday’s meeting.
