Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has sold about $2.03 billion in company stock over the past few days, bringing his total sales this month to more than $6 billion, according to regulatory filings.
Bezos sold about 12 million Amazon shares on Tuesday and Wednesday at an average price of $169.50 each.
The sale was effected pursuant to a transaction plan that became effective in November. Bezos could ultimately sell up to 50 million Amazon shares, according to the company’s annual filing. Bezos sold about 12 million shares worth $2 billion between Friday and Monday, and another 12 million the week before.
This month’s sale marks Bezos’ first sale of Amazon stock since May 2021, when he stepped down as Amazon’s CEO, although Bezos gave away about $240 million in Amazon stock last year.
Bezos left Seattle for Miami in November, saying he wanted to be closer to his space exploration company, Blue Origin, and the family of his fiancée Lauren Sanchez. The move could also save him hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes on the sale of his shares.
According to Forbes magazine, Bezos is currently the third richest person in the world with a net worth of $191.4 billion. His holdings in Amazon fell from 976.25 million shares to 952.26 million after selling them in February.
