Simmons & Simmons has expanded its funds operations in Hong Kong by hiring Jeffrey Frydenberg from US-based global alternative investment firm Angelo Gordon as head of private funds.
“Jeffrey’s extensive experience in the asset management and investment funds sector is an important addition to our team,” said Eva Chan, head of the British firm’s Hong Kong office. “His deep understanding of the intricacies of fund formation, capital raising and regulatory compliance will be invaluable as we continue to expand our presence in Asia Pacific and Greater China,” added Mr. Zhang.
Mr. Friedenberg most recently served as Partner, Managing Director and Head of Legal and Compliance for Europe and Asia at Angelo Gordon, where he worked for more than 11 years. The Hong Kong-based lawyer’s move to Simmons & Simmons comes as the British law firm brings Latham & Watkins’ long-term energy partner David Blumenthal to the Hong Kong-based Asian energy firm. This comes less than a year after he was added as head of infrastructure operations.
Mr. Friedenberg has more than 20 years of experience in asset management and investment funds, including advising private fund managers on fund structuring, capital raising, fund regulation and compliance, among other activities.
From 1999 to 2001, Friedenberg was an associate at Latham & Watkins and Kirkland & Ellis. He joined the US-based private equity firm Pathways Capital Management as an assistant general counsel in 2002 and moved to the in-house division, then moved to Blackstone in 2012 when he moved to Angelo Gordon.
