FRANKFORT, Ky. — The state of Kentucky is receiving $6.8 million in aid for Kentuckians after reaching a multi-state settlement with health care marketing agency Publicis Health. Attorney General Russell Coleman said the company played a key role in fueling the opioid crisis.
“No region in Kentucky is immune from the pain of the drug crisis, and it is long past time for the companies at the heart of the addiction business to be held accountable,” said Attorney General Coleman. “This settlement will bring needed resources to Kentucky’s fight against addiction and support the necessary three-legged effort of prevention, treatment, and enforcement efforts. I am grateful to my predecessor, Attorney General Cameron, for his leadership in holding the companies at the center accountable.”
Publicis Health helped drug companies like Purdue Pharma promote opioid pills. The company encouraged Purdue Pharma to market OxyContin to providers of patients’ electronic health records.
According to the attorney general, 2,135 Kentuckians will die from drug overdoses in 2022, and the state has so far secured about $900 million in settlements from companies that forced pills on Kentuckians. are doing.
