LANSING — Mayor Andy Scholl is changing leadership roles in the city’s financial management functions.
Crystal Thomas, the city’s current investment manager, will become the city’s treasurer on Feb. 5, Scholl announced in a news release Friday. Desiree Kirkland, who has served as treasurer and treasurer, will remain chief financial officer, Scholl said.
Scholl said Thomas’ experience in government finance, including income and property taxes, will be a “valuable asset.”
“Working closely with the Department of Finance and Evaluation, our city’s financial professionals will continue to play a critical role in guiding the city’s revenue, investment, evaluation and financial management,” he said in a release. “We would like to thank Desiree Kirkland for juggling her dual duties and are excited to welcome Crystal Thomas and see how she can further serve the Department.”
Mr. Thomas has over 15 years of experience in tax administration, finance and accounting.
Scholl said her previous positions include deputy assistant treasurer for the Michigan Department of Treasury, Tax and Revenue Services, accounting manager for the Michigan Department of Government Finance and budget director for the state Department of Natural Resources’ Fisheries Division. .
