After graduating as an English major from Renmin University of China in the 1990s, Qian Jing began his professional career with his first foray into the corporate world at a Fortune 500 American company with operations in China. .
At the age of 27, Qian made a bold career change, joining a French company and becoming the company’s head of public relations and government relations in China.
Chen, commonly referred to as Lucy, has an entrepreneurial spirit in both her business and personal life.
Cheng Yi, a former journalist who has known Lucy since she started her career at a multinational company, describes Lucy as “a woman with amazing resilience, like a sunflower, never withering no matter where she is planted. In 2007, Qian took another step forward by leveraging his years of experience and networks from working for multinational companies in China to found a consulting firm to provide consulting services to both foreign and domestic companies. You’ve made an important career decision.
Her life changed when she started volunteering in 2006. She met Sarah Rand, the wife of the former US ambassador to China, who co-founded Dandelion School, a charity school in Beijing’s Daxing district that provides quality education to the children of migrant workers.
As a volunteer, Qian helped organize a charity fundraising event for the school. She noticed that Sarah always exudes elegance and attracts everyone’s attention during these events. Sarah adorned herself in elaborate traditional Chinese dresses and accessorized with dazzling jewelry for every occasion.
More than a decade later, Sarah accentuates her outfits with a jewelry brand created and designed by Qian. Knowing that Sarah loved large, uniquely shaped baroque pearls, Kian designed an exotic pearl necklace and earrings set wrapped in gold.
Even though Sara didn’t specifically teach her about jewelry fashion, Chen deeply considered Sara to be her mentor. Until she met Sarah, Lucy had no understanding of pearls and she had no idea that China was the world’s largest producer of freshwater pearls.
“By getting to know her, I gradually came to understand different types of jewelry – necklaces, earrings, brooches, rings – and the magic they have in brightening up your outfit,” she said.
With an ever-changing mind, Chen continues to look for new opportunities in his own pipeline. In 2016 she founded her Lucy Q Jewelry.
When her former neighbor saw her wearing jewelry from her own brand, she exclaimed, “How did you become a jewelry designer?! I’ve never worn anything like this before!”
Shortly after its launch, Lucy Q Jewelry won recognition from renowned fashion publisher and writer Hung Huang, who introduced Lucy at her Brand New China (BNC) store, a boutique that showcases original designs by Chinese fashion and accessory creators. We have started selling Q’s designs.
“Although BNC was later shut down, I always feel inspired by Hung Fan, who said that China needs its own fashion designers and that ordinary white-collar women like me can also become jewelry designers. ”
Qian believes that by understanding our clients, we can provide trendy accessories to women who love life.
