Sioux Falls, South Dakota (KELO) – Employees at Swamp Daddy’s in downtown Sioux Falls are receiving a wave of support from the community following a chemical leak. Now, other local business owners are also helping in any way they can.
It’s been just over a week since Swamp Daddy’s was temporarily shut down due to a serious chemical leak.
Intoxibakes co-owner Holly Jorgenson has been a neighbor of Swamp Daddy’s in the Jones 421 building for several years. She said she couldn’t believe the extent of the damage.
“It was really shocking. It was like PTSD from last Christmas when there was a flood,” said Holly Jorgenson, co-owner of Intoxibakes and Candy Cloud Factory.
That’s why Jorgenson decided to help raise money for the project.
“Bills still have to be paid. Right now, there is no income coming in from Swamp Daddy’s, so our employees need jobs and support,” Jorgenson said. “These are really great people and they’ve been through a lot in the last few years, so we can’t just sit back and do nothing.”
Jorgenson isn’t the only restaurant owner to support business. This afternoon, Lance White of Chef Lance in Phillips spoke with Beaudion.
“She’s full of gratitude. And it’s nice to hear that. But at the same time, you have to stay positive and try to stay focused. So she’s really grateful for the employees.” I’m really proud to be her neighbor,” says co-owner and chef Lance White.
White said he has received a lot of support and that support makes all the difference.
“Everything gets lighter and we grow and get closer. And that’s what community is all about,” White said.
There is no set schedule for when Swamp Daddy’s will reopen. However, the public can track updates on social media pages.
