A Loyasock Township School District student recently won the fall Woodlands Bank Semester Investment Challenge. According to a press release, student Julia Breon studied under the tutelage of her teacher, Michelle Carpenter.
Contests are held in classrooms across the county and state. Breon ranked first in Lycoming County and eighth in the state.
“I love competing with my students in The Investment Challenge.” Carpenter said in a press release. “It’s a great experience for students to see how stock trading works.”
The challenge is sponsored by Woodlands Bank, a local community bank headquartered in Williamsport.
PennCFL, the Pennsylvania Council on Financial Literacy, which is also participating in this issue, said: “It exists to prepare the next generation to rise up.” According to a press release.
“We provide all Pennsylvania students in kindergarten through 12th grade with personal financial education, investing, and personal budgeting simulations, as well as entrepreneurial training that helps them succeed in work and life. We strive to change the future by providing family spirit skills.” notes the press release.
