LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Supporters cut the ribbon Wednesday for a new building at Chef Space, a kitchen incubator in Louisville. This will enable 12 more entrepreneurs to launch their own businesses.
Chef Space, located on Muhammad Ali Boulevard in the city’s West End, opened in 2015 and has launched more than 200 food ventures. His 13,000 square foot kitchen, funded by several nonprofit organizations and grants, allows culinary entrepreneurs to hone their skills for free.
The expansion was made possible primarily through a $330,000 federal grant secured by former U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth.
“For too long, too many West End residents have had the opportunity to realize their business dreams,” said Kevin Smith, president and CEO of Community Ventures, the nonprofit organization that operates the space. It was missing,” he says.
Chef Space and Kroger also announced five scholarship recipients who will receive a one-year membership in the shared space.
Aaliyah Richmond, who has been a member of Chef Space for two years, said, “I love it because it gives me the opportunity to meet more business owners and maybe even collaborate with them.”
