Delmarva – Lower Shore Scholarship Fund celebrates one year of providing support to students seeking higher education.
The Eastern Shore Community Foundation has donated funds to launch a fund to help Salisbury University, Warwick Community College and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore identify priority areas for scholarships.
CFES President Erica Joseph said much of the money went to students pursuing careers in the health care industry, which is a huge need in the region. “Year by year, we see the impact growing. This year, it could be two $500 scholarships per school. In a few years, each school could have three scholarships. Every donation we receive will definitely help us do that and boost our return on investment,” Joseph said. “Especially as they progress through the ranks, we were able to identify students who had a lot of first-year scholarships and could be second-year and even third-year students where the scholarship opportunities were less significant.”
Last year, $550,000 was awarded to students thanks to this scholarship and 420 others from CFES.
Donations of $500 or more to the Fund are eligible for the Maryland Endowment Tax Deduction. This is his 25% tax credit available to donors when they file their state taxes for the following year.
