The Minot Area Community Foundation (MACF) awarded the Western ND Honor Flight a $10,000 grant. Funding was made possible through the Donald and Genevieve Rouch Foundation.
The Western ND Honor Flight takes veterans from all over Western ND to Washington, D.C., and the program currently serves veterans of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The program is run by volunteers, all funding is local, and celebrates ND veterans by inviting them on an honor trip. There are currently more than 330 veterans on the waiting list, and the grant money will be used to support flights for Minot-area veterans on the waiting list.
“At Western ND Honor Flight, we do our best to ensure that veterans of the World War II, Korean Era, and Vietnam War eras receive the long-delayed recognition they deserve.” said Dennis Burdulsky, Western ND Honor Flight Committee Chairman. “We are thrilled and honored by the generous gift from the Donald and Genevieve Roche Endowment, and a special thank you to the Minot Area Community Foundation for making this possible.”
“Donald Rausch was a World War II veteran who landed on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day and participated in the Battle of the Bulge with Patton’s 358th Regiment as Allied forces moved through Europe.” said Jason Zimmerman, president of the Minot Area Community Foundation. “Donald’s donation will help local veterans have the opportunity to visit Washington, D.C., and pay tribute to all who have served and continue to serve on behalf of our country.” I’m very happy to know that.”
Western ND Honor Flight is part of the Honor Flight Network. The Honor Flight Network is a national network of independent hubs that work together to advance Honor Flight’s mission. All honored veterans travel free of charge to the VA.
The next ND Honor Flight will be held on April 14th and 15th, with additional flights scheduled to take place in October.
