Marco Odermatt hit a downhill double in Wengen to give the home favorites their seventh win of the World Cup season.
The Swiss ace set a benchmark time of 2:25.64 on the famous slope, seeing all his rivals unable to surpass him with the same result as Thursday’s weekend opener.
Odermatt was pleased with his performance but admitted it was “bittersweet” after Norway’s Alexander Aamodt Kilde was involved in a terrible accident.
“It’s definitely still a bittersweet day when I see friends, like when Alec crashed hard.
“I hope he gets a little better, even if he’s not feeling well. This past week has been very difficult for all of us, especially for someone as unwell as he was. It’s been a week.
“Maybe I just didn’t have the energy level today. It’s always very, very sad to see a friend go down like this.”
France’s Cyprien Sarrazin, who won Friday’s super-G event, was second, 0.59 seconds behind Odermatt, with Italy’s Dominique Paris rounding out the podium.
Twelve athletes did not finish, including Kilde, who crashed into a fence near the finish line and had to be airlifted to hospital.
Odermatt leads the World Cup standings in three of the four alpine skiing events and the overall crystal globe race.
