“I pulled him up on that and said, ‘What’s the problem?’ And he said it was because I tapped my foot at the end when I won,” the Welshman continued. .
“I tapped my foot at the end because I shouldn’t have gone for the pink. I should have played it safe.
“I thought he was going to go back to the table and continue playing snooker, so I was a bit annoyed. He just stormed out, but if that’s the reason…I don’t care anyway!”
Earlier in the evening, Vafai was left red-faced by a miscalculation that cost him the second frame.
Already leading 1-0, the Iranians looked set to make it 1-1 when they tied it at 57-57, leaving only pink and black on the table.
However, the 29-year-old miscalculated and thought he only needed to pot one more ball to win the frame.
That meant he didn’t play for Black’s position, and a look of horror spread across his face as soon as he realized his mistake.
After both players missed pot attempts, Williams cut to right-center to take the frame.
He defeated Sean Murphy 4-0 and will now face Cao Yupeng in the quarterfinals.
