Mikaela Shiffrin dominated the slalom on Sunday in Jasna, Slovakia, earning her record-extending 95th World Cup win and 150th career podium.
Shiffrin beat 19-year-old Croatian Zrinka Ljutic by a combined 14-100ths of a second. Shiffrin’s lead after the first run was 52/100, but it was down to 2/100 in the second with 14 seconds left on the course.
Shiffrin won a day after her slalom rival, Olympic gold medalist Petra Vlhova of Slovakia, suffered a season-ending knee injury in a giant slalom accident in Jasna.
“I’ve been thinking about her the last 24 hours,” Shiffrin told Austrian broadcaster ORF after Sunday’s premiere. “Honestly, this is a very big blow to the sports world. , I really miss watching her ski today and being able to compete in that battle.”

Shiffrin’s 150th World Cup podium is five places shy of the alpine skiing record held by Sweden’s Ingemar Stenmark, which Shiffrin broke last March with her 87th win.
Shiffrin also earned her 82nd World Cup slalom podium, breaking her tie with Stenmark for the most in a single event in alpine skiing.
Shiffrin, 28, accomplished that in 110 starts in slalom. That means she finished in the top three in 74.5 percent of races in this field. In her last 100 World Cup slalom starts, she has earned 81 podium finishes.
Shiffrin ranks on the list of all-time World Cup wins in all Winter Olympic sports, with retired legendary Norwegian biathlete Ole Einar Björndalen (96 wins, including one in cross-country skiing), and German speedster She ranks fourth behind skater Gunda Niemann-Stirnemann (98 wins). Norwegian cross-country skier Marit Björgen (114 wins).
The Women’s Alpine Ski World Cup moves to Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, next weekend, with speed races broadcast on skiandsnowboard.live for subscribers.
