LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Norton Healthcare has announced that a $5.2 million investment in a new facility focused on women’s health services is nearly complete.
Located on the 5th floor of the Children’s Foundation Building, across from Norton Children’s Hospital.
The hospital system invested in an entire floor that houses two ultrasound rooms, two exam rooms, 12 restrooms and 14 exam rooms. Mary Schubert, assistant vice president for women’s services at Norton Healthcare, said their vision is to help pregnant women and their families feel comfortable.
“Many women were involved in the design of the space,” Schubert said. “We had MA and the team look at the space and help us decide where everything would go.”
Services offered include gynecology, doulas, high-risk care, and eventually midwifery.

“So we really created this space to say, ‘How can we meet people where they are?'” Schubert said. “We’re a chapter in the book of their lives, right? How can we make it less scary and less difficult?”
Schubert said the facility is family-based and wants relatives such as grandparents and other children to feel comfortable when their loved ones check in.
Alexis Crawford, who has been a professional doula for four years, said she is excited to be a part of the new facility and aims to make patients feel comfortable.
“We will take care of you and your family,” Crawford said. “You should feel safe bringing your loved ones, mom, and other children.”
Schubert said treatment continues after the woman visits the doctor’s office. They plan to use the latest technology to offer telemedicine.

“In the past, if someone was going home after giving birth, they had to either come back, stay in the hospital for another day, or come back,” Schubert said. “With a virtual hospital, we can do telemedicine visits after they go home.”
Crawford said it’s important to be involved in patient care before, during and after birth. She said being a doula is a connection that continues outside of care, and she is ready to continue offering this service to future patients at the new facility.
“This is a really safe space,” Crawford said. “When we see them on the street, we see them at Kroger, we see them at a red light, we say, ‘Hey, you remember me? She was with me, that’s my doula. It makes them feel important. It’s like a VIP service.”
The facility is scheduled to open its doors to patients by March 7, and final touches are still being made.
Schubert said the facility was strategically located right next to a Level 4 maternity hospital and NICU. Services include ultrasound services, clothing storage, lactation support, and even free valet parking.
Norton Healthcare said this will double its commitment to investing in the downtown area. They hope the facility will be more comfortable for women and also hope to expand the program to a future obstetrics and gynecology office at West Hers Louisville Hospital, scheduled to open in November of this year. thinking about.
