We’re looking for a writer with a lively, engaging style to cover traditional and exchange-traded funds for Morningstar.com. This is a unique opportunity for passionate reporters to write about fund performance, flows, and product trends for an audience deeply interested in the subject. When you create your story, you can pull directly from Morningstar’s data, tools, and analyst team.
The candidate will have a demonstrated ability to handle complex fund or ETF investment subjects and make them understandable to readers with no investment experience beyond holding target-date funds in a 401(k). Must be. Additionally, we expect you to have independent and knowledgeable sources outside of Morningstar.
Job Responsibilities:
• Write 3-4 articles per week, ranging from short to longer.
• Identify and report on key performance trends for mutual funds and ETFs.
• Report on how market fluctuations are affecting the fund and how managers are responding.
• Dig deeper into a fund’s portfolio to find out the story behind its ownership of famous stocks.
• Highlight key trends among ETFs and how investors are reacting to new products.
• Report on the flow of funds and take into account market ups and downs in making investor decisions.
• Interview and profile managers of top-performing, high-profile funds.
Qualifications:
• Over 2 years of experience in mutual funds and mutual fund industry.
• Passion for writing about investing.
• Demonstrated ability to write on deadline and complete same day.
• Strong news judgment in identifying article subjects.
• Ability to transform data into stories and graphics.
• Demonstrated comfort with Excel and learning new databases and other tools.
• A curious and creative thinker who takes a collaborative approach to exposition and storytelling.
• Bachelor’s degree required.
