I’m MSU Neighborhood Reporter Lauren Rengion. In the wake of the violence on Michigan State University’s campus last February, mental health resources were provided to those affected, and now… college students, faculty, staff, and first responders receive funding from the Spartan Strong Fund Apply for reimbursement for mental health services.
“These funds totaled $2 million,” said Dr. Alexis Travis, MSU Executive Director of University Health and Human Services.
Funded by more than 4,200 donors, $500,000 of the $2 million raised was made available to people who accessed mental health services after February 13, 2023.
“This fund was established to give Spartans an easy way to apply to have their copays, deductibles, coinsurance, deductibles… covered,” Dr. Travis explained.
This reimbursement includes inpatient and outpatient services as well as residential health care services, and several documents are required to apply for reimbursement. “That includes a bill, an explanation of benefits, and a summary of medical costs.” The patient is responsible, and the health plan is responsible for the cost.” Travis the doctor insisted.
Spartans will also be required to provide receipts for expenses related to mental health services, and those interested should act now before funds run out. “This program operates on a first-come, first-served basis, so please apply early.”
