LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Nebraska Commercial Bank on Thursday established a fund for families who lost their south Lincoln homes in a fire.
The bank said in a social media post that the affected family was one of its employees and had lost everything. Fortunately, the family is physically unharmed and safe.
The bank has set up a fund in the employee’s name and is accepting donations that go directly to the family. The bank respects privacy and says it will not release the names of the employees.
To make a donation, visit any Nebraska Bank Lincoln branch and ask for “NBC Employee Fire Recovery Fund.” Your bank can provide you with a deposit receipt for your records.
Thursday, Lincoln Fire Rescue responded to a home south of 27th Avenue and Yankee Hill Road around 4:20 p.m. The attic and back of the house were completely engulfed in flames, LFR said. In addition, the roof and garage roof collapsed.
Four people and a dog were able to safely evacuate the home, LFR said.
The house continued to burn for about an hour before it was declared under control. According to LFR, the fire appears to have started on an outdoor balcony and spread due to strong winds. The source of the ignition is under investigation.
One firefighter was taken to a hospital with minor injuries and released.
LFR said the home, valued at $500,000, was considered a total loss, with damage to contents estimated at $300,000.
The fire also damaged the exterior walls and structures of two nearby homes.
