Are you a McMaster faculty member and a startup founder looking for more time to focus on your company?
The Office of the Vice Provost, Research Office, and Provost has launched a new fellowship program designed to support professors pursuing entrepreneurship.
The Faculty Entrepreneurship Fellowship frees full-time faculty who have started companies related to McMaster’s intellectual property (IP) from one year of one course or equivalent of instruction. The fellowship can be renewed for an additional year at a discounted rate.
As part of the program, fellows will also have the opportunity to participate in entrepreneurship programs and quarterly mentorship and support meetings.
Leila Soleimani, vice president of research (commercialization and entrepreneurship) at McMaster, said the fellowship will allow faculty entrepreneurs to spend more time raising capital, building teams and developing prototypes for their ventures. He said it would be like this.
“We are delighted to offer this new program to support Professor McMaster’s entrepreneurs. Collectively, their inventions have made an incredible impact on the lives of many people in our local community and around the world. “This program will give us the additional time and resources we need to advance our research, grow our company, and contribute to McMaster’s dynamic innovation ecosystem.” she says.
The fellowship is one of several initiatives currently in development aimed at increasing McMaster’s support for entrepreneurs through interdisciplinary collaborations, mentorship opportunities, and increased access to lab space. That’s one.
Professor Soleimani said this initiative will contribute to McMaster’s circular entrepreneurial training, research and translation pipeline and enhance the university’s local and global reputation for excellence in research and commercialization.
“Each initiative aims to inspire and support faculty and students – both established and aspiring entrepreneurs – in turning research breakthroughs into high-value products and services. It’s about rewarding,” she says.
