Eleven nonprofit organizations received grants totaling $905,000 from the New Jersey Foundation’s directors, the organization announced Thursday.
The New Jersey Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of public policy decision-making on the state’s most pressing issues. For more than 50 years, the Foundation has supported organizations and initiatives that advance systemic and sustainable solutions to public problems through policy, advocacy, analysis, and organizing.
Grants awarded this cycle went to organizations focused on immigration, housing, education, and public media.
“Through our work to improve access to housing, provide high-quality early care and support for New Jersey’s children, protect the rights of immigrants, and build a strong workforce, we We are pleased to support organizations that strive to make the state-wide media ecosystem a better place for everyone,” said Brandon McCoy, president of the New Jersey Foundation. “At such a critical moment in the history of our state and nation, it is more important than ever to ensure that we maintain a strong focus on promoting and protecting the values and character of multiracial democracy and civil society. We applaud the efforts of all these organizations to make that future a reality. ”
Grants awarded by the Trustees in March 2024 include:
housing
- A $100,000 operating grant to Fair Share Housing Center to protect New Jersey residents’ right to fair and affordable housing.
- $125,000 operating grant to the New Jersey Housing and Community Development Network. Advance policies that expand housing affordability and accessibility.
public media
- Provides WHYY News with a $50,000 program grant to support New Jersey’s strong public media ecosystem.
- A $75,000 program grant to New Jersey Public Radio includes a $50,000 base grant to support a strong public media ecosystem and a one-time $25,000 grant to support WNYC/NJPR’s 100th anniversary. This includes an increase in subsidies.
- A $25,000 program grant to WBGO to support New Jersey’s strong public media ecosystem.
education
$75,000 operating grant to Children’s Advocates of New Jersey. We advance state and federal policies that support low-income children and their families and improve the quality of life for children in disadvantaged communities.
immigration
- Provides a $100,000 multi-year program grant to the American Friends Service Committee (year 3 of 3) to eliminate immigration detention and advocate for immigration inclusion policies in New Jersey.
- $125,000 multi-year operating grant (Year 3/3) to New Jersey Alliance for Immigrant Justice. To support and grow a statewide coalition that advances campaigns that promote justice, inclusion, belonging, and empowerment for immigrant communities.
- $100,000 multi-year operating grant (3rd of 3rd year) to Make the Road New Jersey to advance pro-immigrant policies, worker rights, and youth justice through grassroots organizing and policy innovation. ).
- $65,000 multi-year operating grant (3rd of 3rd year) to Faith, New Jersey; It aims to advance racial, social and immigrant justice and continue to develop community leaders with the goal of liberation.
- $65,000 multi-year operating grant (year 3 of 3) to Wind of the Spirit to educate, organize, and mobilize immigrant communities to advance fair and humane immigration policies.
