Arlington – We’ll finally know in just a few days whether Dallas will be able to host the World Cup finals in 2026.
“Imagine if we could get this great news on February 4th, a million tourists would come to town,” said Larry Landry, president of Landry Marketing Group. “It’s like having 12 to 18 bowls.” .
Dallas has already been selected as one of 16 North American cities to host FIFA World Cup matches in 2026. However, this Sunday, February 4th, FIFA authorities will announce which city will host the World Cup final.
Larry Lundy, a longtime Dallas sports marketing executive, said Arlington is the perfect location.
“You can imagine the impact it would have on the local economy to have such a large event at AT&T Stadium,” Lundy said.
Valerie Landry, third-generation owner of Sanford House Inn and Spa in Arlington, looks forward to welcoming guests from all over the world.
“We’re ready for anything. We’re just excited to be closer to where the action is,” Landry said.
World Cup fans have a lot of options for where to stay, but she expects her hotel to get a lot of attention because it’s just a mile from AT&T Stadium.
“The amount of action we’re going to see is going to be similar to when the Super Bowl was here,” Landry said.
They are already working on plans for World Cup packages and shuttles to and from the stadium for guests.
But Arlington businesses aren’t the only ones seeing a surge in business during the World Cup. Experts say the entire region will be affected.
“Not everyone will be able to stay in Arlington, and not only the city of Dallas will be affected, but Fort Worth, Las Colinas and Frisco will be affected,” Lundy said.
This is an event that brings global attention to North Texas.
“The great thing about the World Cup is that it brings people together, different faiths, different cultures,” Lundy said.
