SALEM, Mass. — Salem students graduating from Salem High School, Salem Academy Charter, Essex Technical College or other area high schools and entering college this fall are eligible for the city’s Salem Scholarship Fund.
The Salem Scholarship Education Committee has published applications here and the application deadline is May 10th.

“In Salem, education is a community mission,” said Salem Mayor Dominic Pangaro, who appoints members of the Scholarship Education Committee. “Scholarships in the Scholarship Fund are fully funded by generous donations from Salem residents, businesses, and other members of the community. We encourage everyone who can to donate to support these scholarships and Qualified students are encouraged to apply for this year’s scholarship awards.”
In June 1987, Salem Mayor Tony Salvo and Superintendent Hank O’Donnell advanced a proposal to adopt Chapter 194 of the 1986 Acts. It allows cities and towns to establish scholarship accounts for graduating seniors, which can now be funded by volunteers. Donated by local residents using their tax dollars.
The Scholarship and Education Committee is responsible for the Scholarship Fund, which provides educational financial assistance to deserving city residents, and the Education Fund, which provides additional educational funding to local educational needs or funds existing adult literacy programs. Supervise both.
