Betty J. Fund
September 12, 1943 – March 18, 2024
Betty Jane Fund, 80, of Wetmore, Kansas, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024, at her home. She was born September 12, 1943 in Andrews, South Carolina, the daughter of Dempsey and Dorothy Mae (Martin) Cooper.
Betty graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1962. Because his father was disabled, Betty graduated from Williamsburg High School. Betty was able to obtain a license to drive a school bus and was able to continue driving until his high school graduation.
After graduation, Betty married the love of her life and best friend, Larry Keith Fund, on February 1, 1963 in Coward, South Carolina. After they married, they moved to Wetmore. Larry and Betty celebrated 54 years of marriage. Larry passed away on January 19, 2017.
Betty worked for Rockwell Manufacturing in Atchison, Kansas, first as a grinder and finally as a palletizer for over nine years. She worked at Wal-Mart on shelf shelves and was a manager in the paint and hardware department before retiring in 1999 as a service desk manager. She also served as a school bus driver for Wetmore schools while her sons were in school.
She was a member of Wetmore United Methodist Church and belonged to the United Methodist Women’s Association.
Survivors include her three sons, Bruce Fund (Martha) and Brad Fund (Sarah) of Wetmore, Kansas, and Brian Fund (Mikayla) of Topeka, Kansas; two brothers, Charles Cooper of Bonneau, SC and Gerald Cooper (Patti) of Andrews, SC; 13 grandchildren. her 21 great-grandchildren and many more relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Dempsey Cooper and Dorothy Cooper; her sister Brenda Eslige; two brothers, Ernest Cooper and Lindrow Cooper, and her grandson, Justin Womack.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to Red Neck Games c/o Mercer Funeral Home, PO Box 270, Holton, KS 66436. Betty will be cremated after the service and her ashes, along with those of her husband, will be returned to South Carolina.
