Valentine’s Day is over, but it’s still going on in Okmulgee’s first-grade classroom.
We talked about this class last month when we were trying to collect Valentines from each state.

“We’re going to look back at our map,” Harbin said. “I wanted everyone to see all the love that one class spread.”
The walls of Harbin’s first grade class at Okmulgee Elementary School are covered with 5×7 cards from around the world.
“I was able to interact with people from New Zealand, Central Asia and Japan,” Harbin said.
700 Valentine’s Day letters were sent to Sillanna Harbin and her 21 students.
“Every card said things like ‘sending you love,’ ‘sending you encouragement,’ or ‘sending you positivity,'” Harbin said. The response was pretty good, and I’m really grateful to everyone who took the time to send it to me. ”
People from Texas, California, and even Nantucket sent travel guides and books to children to teach them about their homelands.
But there were a few places they were really looking forward to contacting, especially Kansas, Australia, and Georgia.
Harbin couldn’t believe how many people actually sent letters, but she said her favorites came from close to home.
“This is from someone who graduated from Okmulgee Elementary School, and this is his first grade photo,” she said.
Along with learning about new and exciting places, they learned how powerful love really is.
