CARLSBAD, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Legoland California has broken a world record.
On Sunday, March 3, 2024, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., 1,273 dancing dinosaurs took part in the theme park, breaking the world record for the world’s largest dinosaur costume party.
The title goes to Dunduan, Saskatchewan, Canada, where 1,187 dinosaurs broke the dancing record in 2023, and before that, Portland, Oregon, in 2022, where only 380 people wore dinosaur costumes. And it is taken from the theme of Legoland in San Diego, which had 252 participants in Los Angeles in 2019. The park currently holds the Guinness World Records title.
This event gave the theme park an opportunity to announce the opening date for Dino Valley. Legoland’s newest themed area opens to dinosaur fans of all ages on March 22nd.
A Lego T-Rex man and Legoland’s brass band led a dance party along with Dino Valley’s new costume character, Paleontologist Girl, who was unveiled for the first time at Sunday’s event.
Located near the park entrance, Dino Valley features three new rides, an interactive build-and-play area, and plenty of prehistoric fun.
- DUPLO® Little Dino Trail: Dinosaurs aren’t extinct here! Travel through LEGO® DUPLO® Dino adventures aboard this 4-person vehicle. Children can use their cameras to “photograph” the dinosaurs and play hide and seek with them along the way.
- Explorer River Quest: Go exploring the river and interact with LEGO dinosaur models – watch out, you might spot a Tyrannosaurus!
- coastersaurus: Everyone’s favorite dinosaur ride will continue to take guests through a prehistoric jungle of LEGO dinosaurs. Circle around an 1,100-pound Brachiosaurus or fly past a 10-foot-tall Parasaurolophus as it forages.
- interactive dinosaur area: Dust off the dirt to reveal fossils in the Dinosaur Dig Area, build hilarious dinosaurs with LEGO DUPLO bricks in the Build Zone, and meet new costumed characters.
Continuing Legoland California’s 25th anniversary celebration, children’s tickets are just $25 through March 10th, and in summer 2024, park-goers can enjoy the debut of North America’s first Lego World Parade exclusively at Legoland California Resort You can watch it.
The LEGO World Parade features six floats inspired by your favorite LEGO themes, and glitteringly costumed entertainers marching, dancing and singing through the park.
