Research shows that one in three people (34%) do not have confidence in their financial resilience or ability to withstand unexpected expenses.
A YouGov survey carried out for HSBC UK found that six in 10 (59%) people are confident in their financial resilience. The remaining 7% answered “I don’t know.”
The survey also showed that slightly more people are confident in achieving their financial goals this year (41%) than are not confident (36%).
Almost evenly split respondents said their financial situation had improved/stable or worsened since May 2023.
Nearly half (49%) said their finances were improving or stable, and 47% said their finances had worsened.
HSBC UK financial wellbeing expert Steve Rae said: “It’s encouraging to see the high levels of financial optimism among consumers, but it’s clear that rising costs of living remain a concern for many.” Ta.
“We have worked hard over the last year to educate and empower people about their finances, and a key part of that is helping them build financial resilience.”
Throughout 2023, HSBC UK’s Financial Wellbeing team hosted webinars that were attended by over 50,000 people. The webinar was open to customers and non-customers.
