Terry Beachler, second-generation owner of Beachler’s Vehicle Care and Repair in Peoria, has died at the age of 77.
Mr. Beachler was a fun-loving, outgoing Peoria businessman who was beloved by his customers, his son, Brett Beachler, told the Journal Star.
Terry Beechler not only ran the family-owned store on the corner of War Memorial Drive and University Street for 50 years, but also earned a reputation in Peoria for his years of unfiltered opinions on local government events. Made a name for himself. .
“A lot of people looked up to him because he was very vocal about how our government was run locally and had words to say about it. Not in a mean way. , just saying, “If I ran my business the way you run this city, I’d go bankrupt,”’ Brett Beachler said.
Terry Beachler’s father, Bob, started the store in 1951 and moved it to its current location at the War Memorial and University in 1952. Terry started working there at a young age and he took over the store in 1984 when Bob passed away.
After graduating from Richwoods High School, Terry got into Bradley University through the school’s honors program, but ironically, Brett says, Terry was kicked out of Bradley University because of his poor grades. He then earned his three associate degrees at Illinois Central College.
Terry ran the family store until last year when Brett took over. But that didn’t stop Terry from coming to work, Brett said.
Brett said Terry had many hobbies in addition to running his business, including flying, sailing and riding bicycles.
But most importantly, Terry was a good father who did everything in his power to instill lifelong lessons in his three children and give them life experiences they’ll never forget, including a bike trip from Peoria to central Wisconsin. said Brett.
“He was one of those guys who stood on his own two feet and was dedicated to lessons and teaching lessons,” Brett said.
