Oxford agency shares ethics center marketing strategy

How do you build marketing engagement around basic things like right and wrong?
As part of the Society for Practical Ethics’ 33rd International Conference, leaders from university-based ethics centers across the country exchanged views on this issue.
The event included a half-day session with Kelly Hunsberger, Managing Director of Oxford-based Red Window Communications, who shared strategies from the company’s work.
APPE Executive Director Kristen Foos-Wells said ethics centers across the country have different focus areas, primarily research, business and community impact, but share common challenges.
“Ethics centers are often staffed by academics who don’t have a communications background,” she says. “These are the skills you need to connect with your audience and get more funding.”
Hunsberger’s session, “Communicating the Ethics Center’s Values,” drew on strategies that apply to both nonprofit and for-profit organizations, tailored to the academic environment.
She shared Red Window’s approach to incorporating multiple stakeholder voices and creating a foundational messaging framework that informs all brand communications. This process helps organizations focus on how to connect with the specific audiences they need to reach, from donors and administrators to journalists and university students.
