MILWAUKEE, Wis. — President Joe Biden made his second visit to Milwaukee in less than four months Wednesday. He announced $36 million to invest in infrastructure surrounding predominantly Black and low-income neighborhoods.
We spoke with several neighbors who said they look forward to seeing the president prioritize Black neighborhoods and work to minimize community division.
Milwaukee’s 6th Street has been considered a historic street with a rich history in the Cream City divide for decades.
“This is the heart of the community, and we appreciate the work that’s being done to make this a better neighborhood, a better neighborhood,” Tonda Thompson said.
Thompson lives in the Harambe area and said improvements are needed now.

“He’s talking about significant improvements in our neighborhoods. Specifically, we lost this and now we’re getting it back,” Adekola Adedapo said.
Adedapo has lived in Milwaukee for decades. She said efforts to minimize fragmentation in the city are long overdue.

The Biden administration said the 6th Avenue Complete Streets Project will reconnect communities along more than 2.5 miles of 6th Avenue.
We also saw wider sidewalks for children to walk to school, safe cycle lanes, bus lanes to improve access, and new greenery.
“I want Milwaukee to be a city where people can walk to the grocery store, walk to school, walk to things in their area. We are very excited to be here,” added Charlene Moore.
Moore has also lived in the community for decades and is currently running for District 10 City Council seat.

She and others we spoke with say President Biden’s investments are critical to ensuring residents not only survive, but thrive.
“We believe this will have a positive effect on safety, but it will also have a huge impact on the community in terms of employment, and perhaps rebuilding schools and getting them back to all that we know they can do. We can do it,” Adedapo said. Added.
This is President Biden’s second visit to Milwaukee in less than four months. It’s clear that he is making Milwaukee and Wisconsin a priority heading into the November general election.
Those we spoke to said they felt it was a priority and wanted support for minority communities to continue.
