Rodeo record!4 record-breaking sales at junior market lamb and goat auction

houston – There were four record-breaking sales at this year’s Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Junior Market Lamb and Goat Auction.

Here’s the breakdown of broken records:

Show lamb:

• Grand: Shepard Silvers, Junction FFA, $500,000.

• Reserve: Stratley Strube, Tom Green County 4-H, $240,000.

Market goat:

• Grand: Blaze Mock, Erath County 4-H, $305,000.

• Reserve: Madden Wise, Brown County 4-H, $200,000.

Shepard Silvers had the highest sales in the history of the event. The purchase was made by the Hildebrand family in honor of Jeff Hildebrand’s 65th birthday. Jeff was unable to attend, so his daughter, Brittany Hildebrand, spoke on his behalf.

“Auctions bring us all together toward one common goal,” Hildebrand said. “To promote agriculture, support Texas youth, and showcase the heritage of the West… [Jeff] often says, “There is no better organization than the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and its ability to support education.”

Blaze Mock, named “Apollo Creed,” was the highest-selling goat, selling for $305,000. The purchasers were Amy and Mark Melton and the Hutcherson and Townsend families, in memory of Ken Hutcherson, Mary Lee, Alan Stigall, Tammy, Peyton and Mitchell Barrier.

“We did this in memory of my father,” said Scott Townsend, who attended with his mother and family. “He always said you can invest in a lot of things, but the best investment is in the youth of Texas…We’re not just shaping the lives of young kids. We’re making America a better place.”
