Rohan Dennis has reportedly been arrested and charged with causing death by dangerous driving after his wife, former world champion Melissa Hoskins, was killed in a car accident.
Mr Hoskins died from his injuries in hospital after the incident in Adelaide’s inner north on Saturday. She was 32 years old.
Police said on Sunday: “Major collision officers attended the scene along with detectives from the Eastern District CIB to investigate the circumstances of the incident.”
“As a result of investigations, a 33-year-old Medindi man was arrested and charged with dangerous driving causing death, careless driving and endangering life.”
Hoskins won gold in the team pursuit at the 2015 World Track Cycling Championships, breaking a world record in the process. This is her one of her five world medals that she has won throughout her outstanding career. She has competed in the Olympics twice, but narrowly missed out on a medal at the 2012 London Games.
She married Dennis in 2018 and the couple had two children together.
The Australian Olympic Committee confirmed Hoskins’ death on social media on Monday.
“AOC would like to express its deepest sadness at the loss of Olympic cyclist Melissa Hoskins following the tragic events in Adelaide,” the statement said.
“Our condolences go out to Melissa’s family, friends and the cycling community at this very difficult time.”
Olympic gold medalist Anna Mears, who was Hoskins’ teammate at the 2012 London and 2016 Rio Olympics, said: “My heart is so heavy. My thoughts go out to their children, their families and their fellow friends.” This is me,” he said. It was a very difficult and tragic time. Rest in peace Melissa Hoskins. ”

Dennis is one of the biggest names on the men’s road circuit, having won two World Time Trial titles and stage wins in all three Grand Tours.
He will reportedly appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court on March 13.
