SEOUL, Feb. 12 (Yonhap) – Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong visited Samsung SDI’s battery production line in Malaysia and emphasized the importance of “bold” investment, the company announced on Monday.
The visit followed a Feb. 5 court ruling on the controversial 2015 merger of two Samsung affiliates that was allegedly done to help Lee take over control of South Korea’s largest conglomerate. The trip took place on Friday, Lee’s first overseas trip since he was cleared of all charges.
According to Samsung Electronics, during a visit to its Seremban factory 65 kilometers south of Kuala Lumpur, Lee said, “Instead of focusing only on short-term results, we should rather lead change by taking bold challenges.” ” he said.
Samsung is building an additional production line in the region starting in 2022 with a budget of 1.7 trillion won (US$1.2 billion).
The company added that Lee also visited Kuala Lumpur to check local consumers’ reactions to the company’s latest smartphone, the Galaxy S24.
