SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A San Francisco civil rights activist is accused of threatening San Francisco small business owner Andy “Chino” Yang.
Mr. Yang claims that the Rev. Amos Brown, president of the San Francisco NAACP, threatened his business and family. In an Instagram post on Saturday, Yang, along with the group Asian Justice Movement (AJM), posted a rap video in which Brown visited Yang’s work and blamed Mayor London Breed for the rise in crime in recent years. He claimed that he had demanded an apology.
Yang eventually apologized on Instagram, but said he felt forced to do so.
Mr. Yang and Mr. AJM released a statement on Saturday specifically criticizing Mr. Brown, writing in part:
We are particularly concerned about the actions of Reverend Brown, who purports to represent the NAACP, and whose actions have the effect of pitting the Asian and Black communities against each other. Our communities have a common history of fighting bigotry and hatred. Together we are stronger.
Yang and others are now demanding an apology from the pastor.
KRON4 spoke with Brown on Saturday. He denies all of the allegations and claims that if true, Yang should have told him that he felt threatened.
