The Ohio State women’s ice hockey team heads to Minneapolis to play No. 2 Minnesota on Friday, while seven future Buckeyes will represent their country at the International Ice Hockey Federation U18 World Championship in Zug, Switzerland. I’m joining.
Four American players, Josie St. Martin, Jordyn Petry, Cassidy Carmichael and Macy Rasmussen, advanced to the semifinals with a 4-0 win over Germany on Thursday. St. Martin led the American team in scoring with four goals and seven points, and in the quarterfinals, the United States won with two goals.

Two other future Buckeyes, Hilda Svensson and Jenna Launio, represented Sweden in the tournament, but were eliminated in a 4-2 loss to the Czech Republic on Thursday. Svensson finished the tournament with seven goals in four games, while Launio scored four goals in the same number of games.
The current Ohio State women’s hockey roster features 15 players who played in the IIHF U18 World Championship between 2015 and 2023.
Graduate forward Jennifer Gardiner, who represented Canada in the 2019 tournament, said the experience on the world stage meant a lot to her as a developing player.
“The opportunity to put on the Maple Leafs and the American jersey for the first time in your life is very exciting,” Gardiner said. “That’s the biggest accomplishment for the kids. It was a really fun tournament for me. The people you meet and the staff you work with are second to none. It’s a great experience and I’m excited for all the Buckeyes out there. I am.”
Senior forward Jenna Brioni, who played for Canada in the 2020 tournament, said the number of Buckeye players who play at the international level is a good reflection of Ohio State’s program.
“This is a huge testament to our coaching staff and the girls that have built the program to where we are today,” Brioni said. “The girls and the coaches that we have here now are attracting a lot of high-end players and schools and everyone.” [it] must be provided.
