TOKYO (Reuters) – Some McDonald’s locations are back online after a technology outage on Friday disrupted operations at many of the restaurant chain’s locations around the world for several hours.
The fast food giant has ruled out a cybersecurity incident and says it is resolving technical issues after restaurants in countries including Japan, the UK, Canada and Australia suffered power outages early in the day. Stated.
McDonald’s declined to comment on the number of stores affected.
Many stores in Japan had stopped accepting in-person and mobile orders from customers due to system failures. A spokesperson for McDonald’s Japan Holdings said recovery work is underway and some stores have resumed operations.
The company said its stores in the UK and Ireland were fully back online after the power outage, and McDonald’s Australia said most of its restaurants had resumed operations.
The restaurant chain has approximately 40,000 locations worldwide and more than 14,000 locations in the United States.
The outage also appears to be affecting customers in Hong Kong and New Zealand, with people complaining about store disruptions on social media.
Earlier this month, Mehta-owned Facebook and Instagram also faced technical issues that disrupted global service for hundreds of thousands of users for more than two hours.
