Streep, Blunt, Hathaway praise ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ at SAG Awards

Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway came together at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Saturday to commemorate the 18th anniversary of the release of the 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada.

Streep, who took to the stage alone, began her speech by making the unfortunate mistake of forgetting her glasses and envelope.

Blunt and Hathaway then left with just what Streep needed: large black square-framed glasses and an envelope of awards.

Hathaway wore a blue, perhaps cerulean, Versace dress, and Blunt stepped out in a bright red custom Louis Vuitton dress.

The three hugged each other on stage, and before Streep launched into her monologue, she asked: “It’s the age-old question: ‘Where does the character end and the actor begin?'”

“Well, as you just saw, Meryl and Miranda Priestly, they’re like twins,” Blunt said, referring to the character played by Streep in the film, a caricature of Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. He spoke while referring to whether there was any. Streep portrays Wintour as a ruthless fashionista.

“I don’t think I’m a Miranda person,” Streep sheepishly retorted.

Hathaway interjected, “No, that wasn’t the question.”

And while Streep struggled to tear open the envelope containing the winner’s name, Blunt quoted another iconic line from the movie.

“By all means, move at a glacial pace,” Brandt said. “Do you know how much that turns me on?”

The trio announced the winner for Best Male Actor in a Comedy Series, with Jeremy Allen White winning for “The Bear.”

Anne Hathaway stars as Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada. Andy Sachs is Streep’s character’s assistant in the fictional Runway magazine, and his character confronts Blunt in order to get the cruel Streep’s attention.

The story will soon be adapted into a musical starring Vanessa Williams as Miranda Priestly in London’s West End starting in October.

The 30th Annual SAG Awards is now live on Netflix for the first time. Other winners include Pedro Pascal for “The Last of Us,” Ali Wong for “Beef” and Ayo Edebiri for “The Bear.”

Edebiri, who won Best Female Actor in a Comedy Series, was asked in a post-win interview with host Tan France what icons like Streep and Oprah thought of her speech.

“I think they just want her to be okay,” Edebiri said.
