MADISON COUNTY, Mich. (WLBT) – Madison County authorities have arrested a man believed to be involved in a series of cart thefts early last year.
On Tuesday, Gluckstadt Police announced the arrest of Lou William Vallas, 46, of Mobile.
He is accused of stealing $170,000 in merchandise from Ben Nelson Golf & Outdoors in November.
He is currently being held in the Madison County Detention Center awaiting an appearance in Gluckstadt Municipal Court.
Valas, who was on parole at the time of the alleged theft, took multiple golf carts, four-wheelers and a trailer from the retail store.
He and his accomplice, George Nick Zavros, 41, of Irvington, Alabama, are also accused of stealing several golf carts and a pickup from the Reunion area.
Those incidents occurred in October. Police later determined the items were located in the Mississippi Gulf Coast area. The Moss Point Police Department found the items in the hotel parking lot. The items were then returned to their owners.
In cooperation with the U.S. Probation Office and the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, Mr. Vallas was recently taken into custody and extradited to Madison County.
Zavros turned himself in and was released on $45,000 bail, according to a Madison Police Department social media post.
