James Patrick Judge, a Dunedin resident and longtime entrepreneur in the concrete and construction industry locally and across the state, has died.
Judge’s health continued to decline over the past year and he passed away on Friday, Dec. 29, at Melek Hospice House in Temple Terrace, the statement said. He was 78 years old.
Judge’s first business was Judge Construction, which he founded in the mid-1960s. One of Judge’s most cherished construction projects was when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers contracted his company to travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico, to develop a plan to save Castillo San, a famous 16th-century Spanish fort. In 2000, Schwing announced at the World of Concrete Convention in Orlando that the P-88 concrete pump had become the world’s best-selling small line concrete pump. That same year, James Judge was awarded the Pioneer Award by the American Concrete Pump Association in recognition of his lifelong contributions to the industry.
After selling PUMPS Inc., Judge and his brother founded a small concrete pump company called Concrete Pump Dispatch Inc., based in Safety Harbor. CPDI specializes in providing concrete pumping services throughout the Tampa Bay area and large commercial projects, including military bases in the Southeast. CPDI operated until early 2023, after which the brothers retired and the company was dissolved.
