Grapevine — Michelle Allen is a Grapevine-based home baker. She is usually busy this time of year, preparing Valentine’s Day treats for her own business, her Mellow Treats.
However, this February was busier than ever.
“I started baking on Monday, basically every night from the time I wake up until I go to bed,” Allen said.
“I reduced the number of people I accepted because I felt overwhelmed.”
A few weeks ago, she posted online that her small business would be providing Super Bowl cookie designs.
“People were raving about it. Some people liked it, but I think some people thought I was a little provoked by the fact that I didn’t actually make cookies for the team. .”
She created a Taylor Swift-themed Super Bowl set and orders came in like crazy.
“I thought we would probably get orders in the top 15. So this was more than I could have imagined.”
She sold 51 dozen cookies for special events that she usually ignores.
“Usually I skip. [Super Bowl cookies] Because my customers usually don’t care. ”
She said that would be the case this year.
“This next generation of people now wants to watch soccer with their families. They want to be a part of it too. That’s kind of cool!”
Despite the mixed reactions, she’s happy to create a little something for everyone this Sunday.
“I think it’s funny that people get upset about that… It’s all happiness! It’s fun!”
