As arctic air freezes the North Olympic Peninsula this weekend, many will be showing their gratitude to the Peninsula Home Fund.

In 2023 and during the first two weeks of January of this year, generous donors donated a total of $180,201.75 to the Peninsula Home Fund.

Everyone Thank you very much.

This money will provide residents of Clallam and Jefferson counties with necessities such as food, heating, rental assistance, clothing, childcare supplies, and other items that may be in short supply. It is often combined with other funds to help those in need, from Port Townsend to Forks, from Quilcene and Brinnon to Sequim, Joyce and La Push.

The funds will be distributed by the Olympic Community Action Program (OlyCAP). Only people living in his two counties on the North Olympic Peninsula are eligible.

This fund is not a welfare benefit. The money will be used to give Peninsula residents “a hand up, not a handout” to help them through the emergency. The Peninsula Homes Foundation creates a safety net for residents when they have nowhere else to turn.

Olympic Community Action Program (OlyCAP) case workers use Peninsula Home Fund funds to pay vouchers to people in need. Funds are often combined with other funds.

The end of this campaign, which began on Thanksgiving, is not the end of collecting donations. There are people who donate monthly to keep the fund healthy.

All contributions are federally tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law for the year the check is drawn.

Donors can donate by mailing a check to Peninsula Home Fund along with the coupon attached to this article. You can donate online using your credit card by clicking on the “Peninsula Housing Fund” button on the Peninsula dailynews.com home page. (Scroll down quite a bit). Donations can also be made to the Peninsula Home Fund account at any First Fed branch.

The only money taken from the fund so far is 10% to support OlyCAP’s administrative costs. The rest is for those in need.

The best way to request assistance from Peninsula Housing Foundation is to contact us online.

Click on the “Request General Assistance” button on www.olycap.org and a request form will appear.

If you don’t have internet access, call the OlyCAP office in Port Angeles (360-452-4726) or Port Townsend (360-385-2571), regardless of the county you live in. Front desk staff will assist you. We will answer the phone for you.

Cherish Cronmiller, executive director of OlyCAP, oversees disbursements from the Peninsula Home Fund.

Donor list for the week ending January 10, 2024.
