Devin can also identify and fix bugs (Representative)
US-based startup Cognition has launched what it calls the world’s first AI software engineers.
Cognition’s AI software engineer, named Devin, can write, debug, and deploy code to create working websites and videos.
Devin is a software development assistant in the vein of Copilot, built by GitHub, Microsoft, and OpenAI, but it’s a next-level software development assistant.
This AI software engineer has the ability to execute a single command and turn it into a functioning website or software program.
Devin can also identify and fix bugs, reducing the time and effort required for troubleshooting.
Devin not only provides coding suggestions and auto-completes some tasks, but he can also take on and complete entire software projects himself.
It has its own command line, code editor, and browser, which helps it work independently
Cognition CEO Scott Wu demonstrated in a video how Kevin works. During operation, Devin displays all the tasks being performed and finds and fixes bugs himself as he tests the code being written.
Today, we’re excited to introduce you to Devin, our first AI software engineer.
Devin is at the cutting edge of the SWE-Bench coding benchmark, passed a hands-on engineering interview with a leading AI company, and completed a real job at Upwork.

“Teaching an AI to be a programmer is actually a very deep algorithmic problem, in which the system makes complex decisions and looks several steps into the future and wonders what path it should take. “We need to decide whether that’s the case,” Scott Wu told Bloomberg.
“It’s like this game we’ve all been playing in our heads for years, and now we have a chance to code it into AI systems,” he said.
