A new list from Forbes and market research firm Statista ranks the nation’s best startup employers.
Startups considered had to have at least 50 employees and be founded between 2014 and 2021. Additionally, the company must not be a subsidiary of a large company. They had to be started independently.
Statista examined millions of data points, from social media posts and online reviews on the employee side to employee retention, job openings, and workplace flexibility on the employer side. Each startup received a score and was ranked compared to the rest.

Among thousands of U.S. startups, the top five companies stood out in terms of reputation, employee satisfaction, and growth, according to the report. Two are in Massachusetts, one in California, one in Oregon, and one in Michigan. Three of the five were in the energy and resources industry, and the remaining two were in the security and healthcare industry.

Our Next Energy (ONE), a four-year-old electric vehicle battery startup, earned the No. 1 spot because of its culture, according to Forbes. The Michigan-based startup reportedly has an “egoless” mindset, allowing employees to express their ideas freely.

2. Coalition
According to Forbes, San Francisco-based cybersecurity startup Coalition is the largest startup offering cyber insurance with more than 85,000 customers. The San Francisco-based company was founded in 2017 and was last valued at $5 billion. It was also included in Forbes magazine’s FinTech 50 list.
3.Electric hydrogen
Electric Hydrogen, a Massachusetts-based startup working to develop low-cost green hydrogen, a clean energy technology, ranked third.
