The happiest country for Gen Z and Millennials

The Center for Wellbeing Research at the University of Oxford, which publishes the report, says it also considers six variables for the more than 130 countries ranked in the report:

1. GDP per capita
2. social support
3. healthy life expectancy
4. freedom
5. Generosity
6. freedom of corruption

According to the Pew Research Center, the World Happiness Report ranked the happiest countries for people under 30, considered Generation Z, those born between 1981 and 1996, or Millennials, those born between 1997 and 2012. .

The final rankings of countries for happiness under 30 and over 60 are very different. Lithuania topped this ranking, but ranked 44th for those over 60, making it the 19th happiest country in the world overall.

“The convergence of Europe’s two halves has been driven primarily by rising happiness among young people,” the report states.

In the 2024 World Happiness Report, Lithuania’s overall score was 7.759. According to Lithuania’s state-run radio and television (LRT), the country’s happiness ranking has steadily risen since ranking 52nd in a comprehensive report in 2017.

According to the CIA World Factbook, 63.11% of the country’s population is between the ages of 15 and 64, while only 21.59% are over 65 years old.

According to Numbeo, the cost of living in Lithuania is on average 32.2% lower than in the United States, and the estimated monthly cost for living alone is less than $800, not including rent.

The country’s capital, Vilnius, has been ranked highly in the Financial Times’ list of “Future European Cities and Regions 2023”. It has also emerged as a hub for developers and publishers in the gaming industry.

Vilnius is home to 90% of the companies in the country’s gaming industry and is an LRT province.

According to the World Happiness Report, Israel ranks as the second happiest country for people under 30 with a score of 7.667.

According to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD) Better Life Index, the country ranks above average in terms of life satisfaction, social connectedness and health. Life expectancy at birth is 83 years, two years higher than the OECD average of 81 years.

According to US News and World Report, Israel is one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world, and its main exports include cut diamonds and pharmaceuticals.

According to Numbeo, the cost of living in Israel is on average only 7.9% lower than in the US, but rents are on average 30% lower than in the US.
