This is a week with very few new DVD and Blu-ray releases, but the streaming service series is worth checking out.
“Special Operations: Lioness” Grade A-: Zoe Saldaña has already proven she can handle any action role thrown her way, with blockbusters like Guardians of the Galaxy and Avatar. She puts an exclamation point on that with her work on the Paramount+ series “Special Ops: Lioness.”
The streaming service series is inspired by a real-life U.S. military program that trains women to work for the CIA. Their original mission was to approach women with ties to terrorists. Intelligence-gathering missions have expanded over the years, sometimes to the point of full-blown military operations.
Joe (Saldaña) is trying to implement the program while dealing with big issues in his life. Lioness Direct associates with his program are Caitlin Mead (Nicole Kidman) and Donald Westfield (Michael Kelly). They often have to be a protective barrier between the team and a government determined to prevent the next 9/11 at all costs.
Joe tries to keep his newest rebellious military recruit focused on the mission, but the problem mounts. No one expected deep emotions to change the game plan.
The first season of the Taylor Sheridan (“Yellowstone”) series is now available in a three-disc set. Includes eight episodes and over 90 minutes of bonus content, including two new features and a behind-the-scenes look at each episode.
