The theme of the conference was none other than AI, from the next evolution of the technology to the downside risks of large-scale language models (LLMs) that currently permeate the world’s infrastructure.
Salesforce (CRM) co-founder and CEO Marc Benioff said on Yahoo Finance Live that the world of “digital people” is taking shape.
Yeah, that got really deep in my conversation with Mark.
The bottom line is that I (and I’m not speaking for Julie here!) had very little idea what most of the AI super-experts were talking about. This is just next level. I think you need to really understand generative AI to really understand it.
How simple I am I know This is: 2024 will be the year that AI becomes embedded in the workplace and into the very fabric of the internet. This time, 2023 will be the year when many companies in the AI field turn from losses to profits.
It’s going to be a year where major powerhouses like Microsoft (MSFT), Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL), and Amazon (AMZN) become even more powerful and profitable thanks to advances in AI. These companies are attracting top AI talent because they can afford it. This will further expand its lead in the race to introduce innovative AI products and services.
Having said all this, you may know more about AI than I do. That can be appreciated.
Here are some of the sights and sounds from the frontiers of AI at WEF 2024, as told on Yahoo Finance Live.
Workday Co-CEO Karl Eschenbach
“I think we’re going to start seeing co-pilots. We’re going to have generative AI co-pilots that help us navigate things. We’re going to have a generative AI co-pilot that will help us navigate things. It’ll give us recommendations on where we need to be proficient or retrained. We suggest next steps to advance your career. You can start to consider hiring as a way to leverage AI, and help both managers and employees navigate their careers. Recommendations on where to go and acquire new skills to advance your career. And it helps increase internal mobility in your workforce.”
HP CEO Enrique Lores
“The AI PC is coming this year, and it will probably be one of the biggest changes in the PC industry since the PC was invented more than 20 years ago. It will allow customers to run AI applications locally. So, what do you need today? Running in the cloud with a large language model means you can run it on your PC as well. It brings a lot of benefits from a speed standpoint.”
Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon
“One of the big topics right now is how can we help the industry and what are the different use cases? [AI] on your device. Let’s take cars as an example. Natural language communication behind the wheel is perfect, making the car a new computing space. So how do we add these features to some of our models (the ones we are developing on existing hardware that we have)? ”
Will.i.am, tech investor and Black Eyed Peas star
“One of the projects I just launched with Mercedes is called Sound Drive, which uses AI to change the way you listen to music on your commute. The suspension changes the music. The steering wheel, the acceleration, the accelerometer, the GPS, and you’re just creating while you’re commuting.”
